Branford Marsalis’ jazz roots run deep. This acclaimed saxophonist is the eldest of the illustrious New Orleans jazz family that includes patriarch Ellis and siblings Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason. But the three-time GRAMMY Award winner and NEA Jazz Master is not content to rest on his heritage.

Following stints in the legendary Clark Terry’s band, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and brother Wynton’s groundbreaking quintet, he formed his own quartet which quickly became the standard against which other ensembles are measured.

His quartet recently released Four MFs Playin’ Tunes, an album praised as “a knockout: hard-nosed and hyperacute, tradition-minded but modern” (New York Times). For this Chan Centre debut, Marsalis will be joined by Joey Calderazzo (piano), Eric Revis (bass) and Justin Faulkner (drums) for an evening that mixes jazz standards with original works.
