Featuring original cast member Ela Wiessberger and the new UBC Children’s Opera Ensemble
Directed by Nancy Hermiston
Children’s choirs from across Metro Vancouver join together for an evening of Songs of Remembrance & Resistance to mark Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day.
A new young people’s opera ensemble will perform Brundibár, an opera first performed by children in a Nazi concentration camp. The opera carries a message of protest and of hope.
Special guest Ela Weissberger was eleven years old when she was taken to the Theresienstadt concentration camp in Czechoslovakia. She played the role of the cat in all 55 performances of Brundibár in the camp. Now living in New York, Ela Weissberger will be in Vancouver to join the cast for this performance.
