The title says it all – Explosion Africaine is a high-powered sensory experience, and a unique celebration of the rich musical and dance tradition of Guinea (West Africa).
This special event has been commissioned by the Festival, and will feature a troupe of dancers, drummers and singers assembled by Sal Ferreras and noted Guinean dancer N’Nato Camara.
Before moving to Canada, Camara was the principal dancer with Guinea’s Baille Taille, and soloist (djembe) of the Ballet Djoliba and former soloist for the Ballet Africans - two of West Africa's most respected traditional groups. She currently performs with the international women’s touring ensemble, Les Amazones de Guinée.
With so many talented performers coming together on one stage, the scene will be set for an electric, unforgettable experience!
This performance is made possible with the support of the Chan Endowment Fund of the University of British Columbia.
