Rob Kapilow’s Family Musik: Jabberwocky

Sunday January 18/2009
3:00 pm
Chan Shun Concert Hall

Co-presented by Music in the Morning and the Chan Centre

Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

The frumious Bandersnatch!”

Have you met the Jabberwocky? What about his posse of deliriously spine-tingling creature-friends: the Borogove, the Bandersnatch, the Jubjub bird and the Tove?

Don’t miss the premiere of Jabberwocky, a zany new work by Rob Kapilow, commissioned by Music in the Morning and Lincoln Center. Fun for the whole family, this event combines text from Lewis Carroll’s classic poem with a chorus of 30 singers, the Music in the Morning Family Musik Orchestra, and New York’s PickleShoe Dancers.

With his poem Jabberwocky, Lewis Carroll coined the portmanteau–a word formed by merging the sounds and meanings of two different words. Boost your vocabulary while you chortle along with this delightful afternoon; guaranteed to be a frabjous event for kids and adults alike!
